Development of private collections/museums in Vojvodina - Basis for small and family business

Many important aspects of the development of private museums/collections in our cultural and economic environment were discussed in a vibrant and constructive setting. Namely, the promotion of the value of private collections as well as cultural resources in the context of economic development were discussed. Most of the presentations and discussions included several key topics: private initiatives and the strategy of cultural politics development, the current situation in the field of art collection, legal regulations, economic positioning, preparation of a feasibility study.
All those present have agreed that it is necessary in the next step to conduct an analysis of financial sustainability of promoting and displaying collections. In this context, Dimitrije Vujadinovic has stressed that, after two round tables - the first in Belgrade in 2007 and the second in Novi Sad, it is necessary to go a step further and create a database of private collections, namely to map out all the collections with exhibition qualities, and whose owners are willing to present them for public viewing. A feasibility study should be made based on the database for the first three years at a general level, as well as selected individual cases.
The prepared presentations and constructive suggestions made at the round table present a significant contribution to the preparation of mapping attractive collections in Vojvodina and conducting a feasibility study in the context of the possibility of opening small and family businesses and enriching the cultural life of the local communities of Vojvodina.
This has been explicitly indicated in the very results of the pilot research conducted among collectors in Vojvodina throughout November 2009: the readiness of the collection owners and their will to cooperate with experts, cultural institutions, as well as republic, provincial and local public institutions; there is a variety in initiatives, ideas and suggestions as well as an interest for concrete solutions, with moderate optimism.
State authorities have also expressed their good will and readiness for cooperation. The Balkankult Foundation will continue working on this project and the concrete results of the round table will be the in the form of an issued compendium and the pilot research results, which has been conducted as a requisite for this meeting.
